GUINNESS TEST MARKET SURGER DEVICE AND CANS
Guinness are currently test marketing a new device called a Surger, along with a canned beer that is only for use with the device. The start kit costs £16.99 and contains the Surger device, a glass, two 520ml cans
of the special Guinness and an instructional fridge magnet. The Surger cans are also sold in for packs for £4.99. The product is currently being sold only in Tesco Extra stores in the UK and Guinness are spending £2.5 million
on the launch
To use the surger you must first plug the device into the electrical outlet and place some water onto the metal plate. The Guinness Surger can (that must be refridgerated for at least 3 hours) then has to be poured
into the supplied glass at a 45 degree and and then placed on the Surger device. Pressing the "Surger" button on the front of the device sends an ultra sound pluse thought the beer to produce a creamy head.
My
own experience with this product was not the same as that portrayed in the Guinness promotional film (above), nor did my glass of Guinness look like that in the promotional pack shot during the surge. The only thing I can say
in its favour is that it tasted less bland than the regular widget Guinness Draught.
This is not a new idea, the same technology was used for Guinness by bars in Japan back in the 1970s. Get the cans while you can, I
think they will be a collectible very soon.

Guinness Surger - The revolutionary new beer gadget
Press Release - 28 February 2006
The creators of the award winning widget, Guinness &Co, have once again transformed the at home beer drinking
experience with the launch of a revolutionary new gadget, the Guinness® Surger®.
Fans of Guinness Draught believe 'Good things come to those who wait', and love to watch the transformation when a pint of
Guinness Draught dramatically turns from brown to black topped with a tight creamy white head.
The new Guinness Surger is the ultimate gadget for Guinness lovers who want to create this surge and settle magic at home, and enjoy a smooth creamy Guinness Draught.
While Guinness is sold in 150 countries, Brits are
the biggest consumers of the black stuff, so the Guinness Surger is set to take off in homes across the UK. Whether relaxing in front of the TV after work or watching the rugby with a group of mates at the weekend,
Guinness Surger adds excitement and theatre to that Guinness moment.
Guinness Surger works using ultra-sonic technology. At the touch of a button, the Surger sends an ultra-sonic pulse through the pint
glass, releasing the gases in the Guinness beer, which then settles into the velvet pint with creamy head. Guinness Draught Surger beer is made to exactly the same Guinness Draught recipe, but with a different gas
mix. While the widget delivers the gases in regular canned Guinness Draught, the Surger works its magic to activate the gas within the beer.
This easy to use technology creates a great looking and tasting Guinness
everytime. Guinness Surger starter kits (Surger unit, 2 x 520ml cans and a pint glass) will be available from 27th February 2006 in select Tesco supermarkets across the country.
For stockists call 08457 882277. RRSP £16.99 for the starter kit. The special Guinness Draught Surger beer will be sold in 4-packs RRSP £4.99.
Six Easy Steps to Using the Guinness Surger
· Plug in the Surger · Add 1-2 teaspoons of water onto metal plate · Take cold Guinness Draught Surger beer from the fridge · Pour Guinness Draught Surger beer slowly into a clean pint glass at 45º angle
· Place glass on Surger and press button · Watch it settle and enjoy your Guinness
Guinness and Surger words and associated logos are trade marks.

A major update to this site happened on 18-08-2005, over 1500 new cans were added to the site, along with several new "Countries" pages. The updated pages are indicated on the Countries page, highlighted in yellow.
The Japan pages have been expanded, some of the larger microbreweries now have their own pages and new cans have been added to the 135ml cans page. Although not updated, the cider can page has been moved into the UK area. New links have been added to the links page.
Don't forget we now have a Forum, this is your beer can forum, please use it. If you want to comment on the site, talk to fellow can collectors or tell us about new cans in your area, the forum is the

As I write this I’m about to head off to the USA to attend the
BCCA CANvention and so don’t have time to put up any news stories on this page. Hopefully an update to this page will appear soon.
