ONE CAN ONE COUNTRY

ONE CAN ONE COUNTRY is an “at large” chapter of the Beer Can Collectors of America. The idea being to collect at least one beer can from each country in the world that has beer in cans (The definition of what constitutes a country has been debated since the start of OCOC, the one used for this site can be found here).

It was whilst travelling to a beer can show around 1988 that BCCA members Rob Barrow, Jay Dertinger and Bob Taylor first discussed the idea of a club dedicated to this theme. Jay & Rob continued to discuss the idea every time they met until, in July 1990, the first issue of One Can One Country was finally published and the chapter formed with Jay Dertinger as president and Rob Barrow as editor.

Due to other commitments, Rob Barrow was unable to continue as editor past the first issue and so the editorial reins passed to Canadian BCCA member Nat Di Censo. But, by the mid 90’s the chapter had faded away.

Then, in 1996 the chapter was revived by Vern Hastings who, for over three years, issued a regular quarterly newsletter until his untimely death in April 1999.

The job of presidency and editor for OCOC has now passed to former vice-president Jim Friesen. If you would like to get more information on One Can One Country you can contact Jim at ococjfriesen@juno.com. Mailing address is: 1181 Edgcumbe Road, #1411, St. Paul, Minnesota 55105, USA.
